Billing in Rails 8 — a practical guide to Pay + Stripe
I just released Billing in Rails 8, a 126-page implementation guide for building subscription billing into a Rails app with Pay and Stripe. It focuses less on getting the first Stripe Checkout session working and more on everything that comes after: keeping provider state separate from product behavior, stable application-level plans, entitlements and limits, trials, upgrades and downgrades, cancellation, failed payments, reconciliation, and testing the whole thing without making Stripe your application architecture.
The package also includes an adaptable Rails reference implementation and an Agent Companion with contracts, recipes, examples, and review checks intended to give coding agents enough context to work on billing without inventing the architecture as they go.
The reference implementation is built around Rails 8.1, Pay 12.1, Stripe, and PostgreSQL.
There’s a free sample on the landing page if you want to look through it first.
For launch week, BILLINGLAUNCH takes 20% off Billing in Rails 8, Webhooks in Rails, or Build a SaaS App in Rails 8.
