A Welcoming Ruby Community - Calling for A No-Ban Policy

Hello, allow me to highlight A Welcoming Ruby Community - Calling for A No-Ban Policy - Use A Two/Three Week Suspension For Cool Off Instead. Note: This is a link to the ruby-talk (read-only) mirror - to subscribe to the mailing list (and join the discussion), see the official ruby lang website for instructions. Cheers. Prost.

It’s unfortunate to see you were banned on a list over that particular thread, but I don’t know your full history on there and can only trust their decisions.

FWIW, when it comes to RubyFlow, I’m happy to let people who I might have had issues with to continue to post as long as the content is relevant (as Andy can perhaps testify). Only spammers are permanently banned here.

Nonetheless, I retain the right to moderate as I wish and while I default towards leaving people alone, anything I think steps the wrong side of a line of civility will be removed if I feel it’s necessary to keep people safe. I think that’s about as fair as it can be.

There’s no history. All I did is asking for more tolerance and a call for a no-ban policy. Anyways, thanks for comment - sorry if I was paranoid some time ago about be banned here - I think the cause was that bitcon and crypto and such triggered some auto-moderation / spam tagging or such (as it does now ;-) e.g. “Your comment contains blacklisted / spam content” - changing to bitcon ;-) - I am a crypto critic and obviously the auto-moderation cannot detect satire or if the sentiment is pro or contra or such and trying to educate because obviously I believe in the long slog and try to educate people instead of using the hammer and ban everything. Anyways - I will consider my options after getting excluded /banned now with not any commentary or reason why. That’s absurd.

Also if I may add there’s a misundestanding - the post was really about the ruby reddit moderation policy - as I got a private email from a long-time ruby contributes getting banned twice (e.g. after creating a new account) by Richard Schneeman and - of course - without any reason other than if the ruby mod downvotes you - than it’s not bullying - it’s you and so on. Anyways getting banned without a reason followed up by Thank Yous posts is dare I say not looking good for the welcoming ruby community.

Sorry for the long thread - and obviously I was posting about ruby reddit moderation policy on ruby-talk because I am banned (and blocked) for life by Richard Schneeman - for some background see https://github.com/chooseaconduct/chooseaconduct.github.io/blob/master/casestudies/ruby.md

Understood. I’m not involved with any of those decisions. I appreciate you stating your side of the argument, but you should understand that you come across as a little frantic. I’ve had similar disputes in the past, and this sort of reiteration never tended to help in the long run.

Take a deep breath and carry on with your good work. Bring your best self to the communities you participate in, and I believe you can prevail.

Not sure I get your point - for the record - I was speaking up for others in solidarity. Both bans were caused by asking for more tolerance (and as you say focus on bring out the best of people and so on). And these post were an invitation to you to speak-up in solidarity too. Not sure what to make of your policy of telling victims to shut-up and be quiet and move on. But sure thanks for the time to post an answer / comment “in the debate”.

I am not interested in your interactions on other sites. I am not interested in your fantastical fabrications of what you think I’ve said.

I hope you are able to continue sharing information and links that other readers might find interesting. Any further nonsense will be moderated appropriately.
