Writer Needed for Ruby Inside

Ruby Inside is looking for a writer (only one, alas) to contribute 12-20 posts per month. All the details within this RubyFlow post…

Comments

I need a solid blogger to post to Ruby Inside on a regular basis. Someone who thinks they can drive the editorial voice forward and keep the 19,000 subscribers we have so far happy :)

The basic requirements are:

  • 12 - 20 posts per calendar month
  • I need a good writer rather than a hotshot developer (i.e. solid syntax and spelling)
  • You’ll need a reasonable familiarity with Ruby’s ecosystem (the most popular names, libraries, communities, etc.)
  • You need to accept US$ payment with PayPal or British cheques in GBP
  • You need to be self employed and able to deal with your own taxes, etc.

This should be an ideal opportunity for people who want to increase their profile within the Ruby community or who want to get into professional blogging. I can provide training/coaching and direction, as well as leads. The key is that while you will not be an employee, I need someone who can commit to a regular posting schedule in principle. Ultimately, almost anything is up for discussion.

You would be writing in two main styles, “news” and “roundups.” Some examples of general “news” items would include:

Extra would be paid for longer roundup or “list” posts. Examples:

Pay is negotiable, but to lay my cards on the table, I anticipate paying $20-$25 for the shorter news posts and up to $50 for the longer ones. I’d anticipate that anyone keeping reasonably up to date with Ruby would take about 15-20 minutes on a typical news post, assuming no interviews, etc. Long list posts can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

If you want to start a discussion about this with me, e-mail me at rubyinside -at- peterc.org. Alternatively, if you have any initial questions that you think would benefit everyone or want to chime in with something, comment here :)

I should note that, unfortunately, this is an opportunity for only one person, so if I have already chosen someone by the time you contact me, I will be straight with you :) I appreciate any interest, however, and whatever happens, nothing is a judgment on you or your abilities. Peace and love!
